Hi,

I have the following questions regarding testing/getting IPN to work.

1. Currently, I go to paypal's web page and download a csv file with all the previous payment notifications within a certain date range. When I activate IPN, can I still go to the web page and download this csv file?

2. When looking at the csv file that I currently download, there is a column named "note". I do I gain access to this when IPN is activated? (I've read the manual multiple times and many posts on this forum, but I still can't figure this out). Is there any documentation that maps ALL variables in the csv file with PayPal's IPN variables?

3. Does it matter if I append the cmd=_validate to the end or beginning of the url which I POST back to PayPal? (Tech support said append to the end, JSP code example from PayPal appends to the beginning).

4. Does PayPal's hour field range from 0-23 or 1-24 (page 7 of IPN manual gives the following example: 18:30:30 Jan 1, 2000 PST). After emailing tech support, they said 1-24. But looking at the csv file I currently download, has times like 0:14:29 and 23:54:03 which leads me to think 0-23.

Thanks,
Larry

1. IPN and the CSV log are just different ways of obtaining payment information. Some merchants trigger fulfillment based on IPN and use the logs for reconciliation.

2. We don't have a mapping of the log to IPN.

3. It can go at the beginning, end or anywhere in between.

4. 0-23

I should have revised question 2 a bit. Even if there is no mapping between log and IPN, how do I get the data in the note column (log) when using IPN?

It would be ideal if I could use IPN and only use the log when necessary.

Thanks,
Larry

The note field is included in IPN as the "memo" field.
