Hi there !

I am very new to e-commerce website. I am trying to help one of my uncle who has one small bakery shops in Memphis. He wanted a web presence now. He marked me all the details about what exactly he wants. Anyway.. My questions and doubts are as follows:

1. Do Paypal maintains database tables? For instance, his shops are
selling 15 different products and he wanted to maintain the log of
each product and each customers who are taking or were took the
products. My question are how much support I can get from Paypal
in this issue? Do I have to create the tables myself or paypal
provide everything and I just need to park it on my db server with
little amendments.

2. How can I link my db to Paypal ? How I can park each records into
my tables?

Please guide me.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

With Thanks!

PayPal will not maintain your database tables, you can use IPN to post the transaction details you need to the tables you define in your database. You would need to create an interface for your uncle to do the queries to view the examples you stated above.

You can use the IPN information, open source sites, or a 'turn key' third party solution.

IPN: http://www.paypal.co...n-intro-outside
Open Source: http://paypaltech.com/SG2/
3rd Party Solutions: http://www.paypal.co...pntools-outside

Yes, you will need to create the tables yourself unless you use a generator or third party solution.

Hello Stephen,

I need your assistance in setting up tables for IPN. I have a very hard time to set it up for the B2C website. I have done rest of the things but unable to setup the db tables for IPN as am not aware :

1)What fields I need to have and what not ?
2)What information Paypal will transfer it to me ?
3)How can I fetch those information and tranfer the same into my tables ?
4)When I can transfer the log into my tables ? Is it before submission to paypal or after submission ??

Lots of doubt... Please help..

Is there any demo kind of stuffs for the same?

FYI, I am using the Paypal shopping cart also.

Any guidance are most welcome..

With Thanks!

I would suggest starting with the IPN manual on the home page of this site lower right side.

Thanks Andrew for sharing the links!

My basics are clear. But, I doesn't understand, what are the various fields I should take for order table / txn table ? Paypal online documentions show me some 50-60 fields (in 3-4 tables) which is really hard for me to digest as my uncle company is NOT such a big one..

Please help.

Thanks for your time and comments.

Hello,

I would recommend only creating a table to include the variables you are using on the front end and need on the back end.

For example, if you are selling digital goods or a service, you do not need any shipping information.

If you are not using any of the optional variables, custom, invoice, shipping, tax and so on, then do not code for them.

Generally if you are shipping a product you will want something similar to this: http://paypaltech.co...rm2/display.php

You will also want to check for staus, if pending, you want to wait to ship until it is cleared.

Thanks Stephen for the URL!

This is what I predicted from the URL. Please correct me if am wrong.

1. The mentioned variables in the URL page will get from Paypal as IPN post. I need to capture it and store on our database table.

2. It also meant that we have to have only missing variables(txn,_id,invoice, payer emails, payment_amount, payment_date, first_name, last_name etc.) in a table or two.

Thanks for your support and co-operation.
