Using PayPal for the first time, I'm not certain which is the best course of action (IPN necessary etc??):

I am setting up various websites promoting different specialised eBooks. With PayPal I am looking to enable to following process:

1. Customer visits one of the sites
2. Customer places order for eBook
3. If transaction is successful, an email is sent to a specific 'orders' email address (only read by autoresponders), which includes the clients name and email address for future records.
4. Autoresponders email the client the download URL and their unique access u/n and password.

We have the software to handle the autoresponders etc. However, how can we get PayPal to email a specific address (unique to each eBook site) upon completion of an accepted payment, also containing their name and email address which can then be saved?

I'd suggest writing a simple script (PERL, ASP, etc.) that processes a PayPal IPN and emails the buyer the ebook or a link to the ebook. Processing an IPN is usually safer than "scraping" an email.
